Alina Treiger to be ordained as Germany’s first female rabbi since WWII

November 4, 2010

The title says it all, really, but have the link to the BBC page anyway.

Ms. Treiger is the second female rabbi ever to be ordained in Germany. On the subject of her only predecessor, she said:

“Her name was Regina Jonas. She grew up in Berlin and studied in Germany and she was forgotten for a long time.”

I can’t help wishing that Alina Treiger had been asked more about herself, and her own historic appointment, but in the meantime, I’ll settle for being pleased for her, even if I am a godless heathen!
