And On The Subject Of Suffrage:

September 28, 2010

I present this BBC article on women in Brazil, who are currently campaigning “to show that the votes of women, who make up more than half the electorate, cannot be taken for granted.”

This pleases me greatly, firstly because of the way they’re doing it – getting women to take photographs that were turned into postcards and sent to candidates, asking for their views on “a range of issues including abortion, health, racism, crime and domestic violence” – and secondly because of the way the BBC are reporting it, which is to say, positively and appropriately.

Elections are being held on 3rd October in Brazil, where (according to the BBC) opinion polls currently suggest that Dilma Rousseff will become the first female president.
