Getting It Right:
Relate, the UK’s largest relationship support provider, has dismissed a relationship counsellor who refused to provide therapy for gay couples, saying that he couldn’t promote gay sex since he was christian. Even more pleasingly, his claim of unfair dismissal was thrown out, and Relate released a statement saying:
“Relate is committed to supporting all religious beliefs working within Relate. However, our primary consideration is to our clients who often need complex advice and assistance.”
That’s the way it ought to go – respecting somebody’s religion, but only up until the point at which it begins to negatively affect other people.
Also, you know, if you don’t want to do the job – get another job. This is not rocket science.
Similarly pleasing is the slightly less recent news that “two Beefeaters at the Tower of London have been dismissed for harassing Moira Cameron, the first female Beefeater.” Although I’m sure the article could have been illustrated with a photo that didn’t focus quite so heavily on her breasts. BBC, meet irony.
