Carnivals: we like them.

October 27, 2009

There are lots of feminist carnivals around, and other anti-oppression carnivals. Obviously, not all the things mentioned in them are going to be happy. The nature of fighting oppression means that you have to talk about oppression, which is less than cheery.*

Carnivals are a happy thing in themselves because they are a wonderful example of co-operation and community. One of the annoying things about blogging is that it can feel a bit pointless – like talking into empty air. Getting into a carnival, even if you’ver nominated yourself is some kind of a reward. Carnivals help people connect, and can be a really great way to find new bloggers.

*Yes, that is one of the problems with the entire premise of this blog. But shhh.
