Today In Cheerful News…
An exerpt of the article:
Lorraine Jones, of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, said women shop workers, cabin crew and other employees had to wear high heels as part of a dress code, but this did not apply to men….
[She said:] “We are not trying to ban high heels. They are good for glamming up but they are not good for the workplace. Women should have a choice of wearing healthier, more comfortable shoes.”
The actual motion simply says that firms promoting high heels should think about the potential risks involved, and, if it is a risk to be wearing high heels, they should replace that dress code requirement with one which requires “sensible and comfortable” shoes.
Having experienced first-hand the bizarre dress codes that some companies foist on their employees, I couldn’t be happier that a union is thinking about it.
