Feminism in London 09

September 3, 2009

There’s a conference on the future of feminism in London on Saturday 10th October organised by the London Feminist Network. It sounds really interesting and varied.

But the thing that really warms my heart about it – there will be a  creche organised by the London Pro-Feminist Men’s Group.  Of course, feminist events being child friendly and male allies doing ‘women’s work’ should not be the exception – this should not be a special thing. That being said, it’s still nice when people get things right.

ETA – With all that said, there are problems with the organisation of this event, namely the ‘women-only’ status of one of the workshops, combined with a history of transphobic policies among some of the organisers. Clearly, I missed that – I screwed up, privilege-wise. I really don’t want to be celebrating as ‘happy things’ events which exclude or hurt people that feminists should be acting as allies to.

Thanks to Helen at Bird of Paradox for pointing it out.
